In 2017 our Founder, George Fairhall, was underpaid for the final time and set on her mission to change the lives of hourly-paid workers worldwide.
George‘s Story
With years of experience working in hospitality, our Founder and CEO, Georgina Fairhall, encountered the same problem in every job – she wasn’t getting paid correctly. Hours would frequently be missed, breaks wouldn’t happen, and she was routinely expected to work beyond her finish time to ‘support’ the team.
Fairhall launched wac in 2020, one week before a national lockdown, after stepping away from a potential law career to champion low-paid workers.
The entrepreneur, who has repeatedly been advised to move her business from Leeds to London, has raised £1m angel investment as a non-technical sole female founder for a pre-revenue B2C business – making her the highest-risk investment.
In April 2024 she introduced the business’ first revenue stream, achieving an ARR of just under £100k within 3 months, with ambitions of turning over £18m in year three, boosting the tech sector, recruitment, and economy in the North.
Today, wac has over 5,000 five-star reviews and has helped hourly-paid workers reclaim thousands of pounds in underpaid wages – proof that George’s mission is paying off, literally, for the people who need it most.
